Most of my music involves a computer at some level, whether it's just digitally recording audio, or doing a bunch of MIDI tracks. This piece was actually created by a computer. An Amiga 3000 to be specific. There's a MIDI program called Dr. T's KCS (Keyboard Controlled Sequencer) which I used to use a lot. It has a feature called the PVG (Programmable Variations Generator). It's pretty complex, but worthwhile learning because it's very powerful and flexible. This piece was created by much trial and error (you wouldn't believe some of the hideous sounding errors!) with PVG where it worked over a very simple little melody I banged out on the S-50 sampler. It kept adding notes and making the simple starting melody more and more complex and deep. Kind of like our understanding of the Universe. The more we look, the deeper and more complex it reveals itself to be.
