Gnawed Trees?
Well, my basement project studio was named Barkin' Beaver Studio, and I wanted to indicate I'd been busy, so.....
Anyway, this project is:
Some songs are nearly 15 years old, and some are less than a few months old. Details are on the individual song pages. The music here is the product of my odd little brain. A careful listening will let you in on my thought processes. Most of the pieces were done by me alone. The music was originally produced mostly on Amiga computers. It's not a PC, not a Mac, it's a third kind of computer.
You'll notice most of the pieces are instrumentals. I have rarely been satisfied with any lyrics I write. Only "Heart Strings Of Steel", and "Two Moods" have lyrics by me. The others are by Teejay Riedl and Graham Parker. I've always agreed with Brian Eno anyway.... he contends that lyrics/singing are usually the only thing that people pay attention to, even if the music underneath is exceptional. I also believe that music is a product of the imagination of the musician(s) meant to connect with the imagination of the listener. Lyrics usually severely constrain the listener to one narrow interpretation. I would rather have you, the listener, let your mind travel to wherever it wants to go, not shove some imagery into your brain. I take it for granted that the people I'm sharing this with have their own fertile imaginations.
This brings me to a request I have for you. You may or may not like what you hear here, but I ask that you give me one hour of your existence. Listen carefully to the whole thing at least ONCE with no distractions, preferably alone, using good headphones. Music has become such an easy to ignore commodity these days, it's hard to sit down and really listen, but that's what I'm asking you to do. Please.
Ignore the titles of the songs, or whatever I've written here in this little website. Let your mind wander where it will. I only have 'explanations' of the songs on the song pages to show you what I was thinking when I created it. You should come up with your own interpretation.
This project was completed in 1999.
